Mining and river destruction go hand in hand - just unfortunate collateral damage it seems.

A pristine creek named Mammy Johnsons Creek is apparently "in the way" of "progress" in the Gloucester / Stroud coal mining area.  Are we to lose this also.  In a country where Governments place so much "spin" on water conservation, it seems strange that in the face of all evidence that mining has a very detrimental effect on natural water supplies, they have no problem in granting miners total freedom to destroy these resources.  

Sure, they claim to put in place controls to protect the environmental, but the Environmental protection act itself allows the overruling of any protection afforded by the Mining Act - sort that one out.  A terrible track record also speaks for itself. 

The worst thing is that Governments are not accountable and it therefore follows that the mining companies are granted this non accountability.
