This website is dedicated to the support of the anti mining lobby in NSW Australia especially in the areas about Newcastle and Gloucester.

I do not intend to be totally "anti mining" per se; I think it is generally accepted that mining is a part of our national interest - like it or not.

What the problem is that mining is being undertaken at the total expense of our environment, in many cases even though there are [supposed] to be environmental protection measures included in the miners licenses.

The miners simply are being totally inconsiderate of others in our society.  They are driven entirely by the financial gains - being bloody greedy at all costs.  What is amazing is that current and recent Governments give them their full backing, forgetting that Governments are there to serve "the people" - all of them - fairly.

There are whole communities being adversely affected by this rampant mining, greed and corruption within the industry, governments and councils.  What they do not seem to understand is that we all totally rely on our environment and its diversity for our very existence - even the simplest of animals respect their nest.

Pollies behaving badly

The Safeguarding Agricultural Land and Water from Mining Bill aims to protect prime agricultural land, and the rivers and aquifers that feed that land, from mining.

There is no sensible argument or reason why a bill such as this ought not be in legislation - it is not a threat to mining, it simply aims to increase the safeguards to the necessities of our lives - clean water and fresh food…

The pea and thimble ploy

In the NSW parliament on 5 march 2009, Lee Rhiannon of the NSW Greens put the following questions to the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment (Carmel Tebbutt) and to the Minister for Planning (Kristina Keneally).

These questions relate to local residents concerns that Duralie Coal not only want to expand its operation but in doing so wishes to change its operating requirements to…

A miners comment

This comment was receive by email from what turned out to be an experienced coal miner.  Jim obviously, like me, had a bee in his bonnet about the issues.  It is worth exploring all issues I feel, so I thought it worth publishing the dialog as an article in its own right.

The following are direct quotes:-

This comment from Jim Smith on 3 April 2009...

Mammy Johnsons River

The issue of "the proposed dumping of waste mine water into the unspoiled natural stream Mammy Johnsons River" by Duralie Coal will not go away.

"This river downstream, joins the Karuah River and is extensively used for town water supply, agriculture, recreation and commercial purposes. The rivers have rare high value biological features" [Commission of enquiry report 1997].

Pollution by stealth

Heads up folks !

Having attempts to obtaining permission to dump waste coal mine water into Mammy Johnsons River somewhat thwarted till now (Duralie Coal), our Robert Lord (CEO Duralie Coal) has another tactic.. Duralie Coal has now an application before the Department of Planning to extend the mine and for approval to be made under Part 3A of the EPAA (application number 08_0203).  Quotes are…
